The colors don't come out quite as well with that lighting but he's more yellow/tanned than pure white, and the blood is darker and more 'drippy'. You can sort of fit him over your head but it's a bit of a squeeze. I bet if you put it on a small child's head it would fit but the kid might be scared. He's soft and cuddly and has a leathery top.

Bloody hell, what is it with this UBB code?

Yep, I found some instructions on the net somewhere and tried to make sense of them but it was a bit confusing so it's not perfect. He's a bit too fat.

The instructions are here http://www.forumplanet.com/planethal...549678&p=1 and as far as I can see nobody's painted it yet, it looks like there are only a few people making them. Mine doesn't have the little knobbly claws on the front since the instructions are so godamn confusing.

Oh man that is so awesome. I've never thought of using a 3D model to create a sewing pattern (probably because I never sew). I might just make ones of those for my little bro for a Christmas gift. What material did you use? You say the top is "leathery;" did you use leather, or a leather-like material (I'd probably have to use some cheap fabric, since I'm broke).

Actually if you want to be totally accurate, it's Lamarr - the headcrab was named after Hedy Lamarr (rather good play on words and scientific reference!)

Re: Lemar - 12-18-2004, 02:16 AM

Cheers MoP, Lamarr it is!

I just used a slightly stretchy fabric, I bought two square metres of it but used only a quarter of that. I just printed out those instructions and went insane trying to figure it all out so mine's not entirely accurate but close enough. Those instructions also don't have the mouth part but I figured it couldn't be too hard to do. And the leathery top came from using white acrylic paint, the type you'd use on a canvas so it went hard, but when you water it down a bit it turns into a rougher, sort of leathery texture. The rest is just mixtures of fabric paint that dyes the fabric rather than paints over it.

And yes, I'm going to give it to my kid. No pansy ass teddy bears for my son! I haven't slept with it yet since I only just finished it today

Looks really nice man. Only thing that gets me is how thin the attachment point is at the base of the legs. But it totally makes me want to hit it with a crowbar.

LOL! If someone made more of these I'd buy them, After my Re-enacting experience I am more dangerous to myself with a needle and thread, than a gun. But I'd buy one, simply to toss aat people playing the game. :-)
