RobG you are awesome not because my name is RobG as well, and not just because your work is so so so sweet, but because this guy http://blujarr.com/bb/downloads/33.gif almost was walking in beat with Joey as I was looking through your site. More awesome stuff as always.

@achmedthesnake: That is looking awesome. The skin texture is a bit bland though, and has too much specular on it. I think if you added just a little bit of a noise overlay on your normal map, and tweaked your spec levels, you'd get a much better result.
And to make the lion on his armor pop in the profile, you can add a couple polygons in that area. Doing that shouldn't mess up you're uv's, no matter what program you're using.
AGAH! Sweet Stuff RobG, ! MAN sweet, makes me want to do personnal art again, SEXY SSTUFF

First time I show my work here. This one uses 680 triangles, 1 1024x512 map and one small 32x32 map for the grates in the windows. I have a few holes in my uvw and I will split some surfaces later and remove some of the repetive patterns. But it needs more dirt and tags first. Thats the plan... http://home.vxu.se/jenni00/temp/kiosk07.jpg

RobG is leading the way! Don't stray from what you like to do. Always be creative and express your art in your own unique style.
I wish more illustrators would make the switch to 3d. RobG's stuff is just a tiny, tiny taste of what these guys could do with 3d. I LOVE IT. It's so refreshing to see.

RUZ - Great work so far...a few crits though.
1- The hair looks off from the front. You can see mirroring and it looks like there are some holes showing up. Maybe readjust the hair planes you've got for the alphas and even in the front middle maybe an alpha or two to break up the symmetry going on.
2- The bottoms of the pants leg taper really odd. It seems bulge then taper then buldge then pull up inside toward the top of the boot. ACUs when wearing boots don't look like that, it'd buldge a lil around the lower calf then taper in to meet the boot's top opening if tied off and or tucked to the boot. Otherwise another option would be the ACU's buldgeing slightly out about the bottom of the calf and then tapering at a slighter angle coming in about the ankle of the boot over it and the drawstrings being quick tied and a lil loose. It would look more natural than what is going on now.
3-Pockets seem a lil too flat on the front. Almost like it's pulled tight the fabric to the body in that spot.
4-I've noticed that a good group of combat journalist have actually been using military dump pouches for holding camera film / equipment as of late. I don't know if it is that they acquired them on site and found them useful or if it's always been a trend. I thought it was kind of neat though.
Otherwise looks nice...almost like a version of the main character from Dead Rising in a way.
cheers for that crit TelekineticFrog.I was getting a bit bogged down with making the arms look right. I will grab a bit more ref on the combats.

Razor Bladder , its not elitist.
I spend all week polishing my stuff before I post, so I am not asking that everyone be perfect straight away, just that they do the groundwork, grab some reference and compare it with whats out there.
What tends to happen recently its that the stuff that is not too hot gets totally ignored in P&P anyway. Its better to be honest with people really.

I'm with Ruz actually, I totaly ignore all those "Sculpting Fun", "5Minutes Mudbox", "Zbrush Doodle" etc posts since they mostly show something looking totaly crap, especially busts which don't really look like a human being.
But posting this sort of stuff might be due to author thinking that "So awesome, must show it to others"... and some people just won't comment it to not get the other guy mad or to avoid a flame war.
I won't actually comment Penzers work since to me it's 10000% obvious that this is anatomy off and it's not even a good start, why would I comment that if author should guess that himself... and any community crits won't do a shit here (cause what can they say than "looks like a good start" or some simmilar shit when it comes to that early pics).

im with you and ruz on this stuff.
when i saw penzer head i tought "what a piece of crap, this dudes has no sense".
but didnt say anything cause i dont wanna be like the mean man that says bad things because obviously if he posts that he likes it and this is just fun for him.
if you made that head in sculpey and showed it to someone they would be like.. eheh yeah. its cute.
but if you made a head that looks like a real head, they would be like, "ohh this is really good, perhards change a little bit here and there".
i.e. ppl only critique someting to help you improve when they see its worth it and that you actually spend time doing it, in this case it wasnt. you played a little bit with sculpey and pooped and image. what you want ppl in here to crittique? smash it and do it again.
. .. yueah..
smash it and do it again. this time use references.
im thinking you obviously now that head looks nothing like a real head. put a little effort in it next time if thats your desire. if not. well continue to do what you do but dont expect comments from others.
humm. which you probably werent expecting.
Edit 1: looks like it was razorblader who started this all. by saying ruz was an elitist. infact i dont think penzer wanted any comments on the piece. he just wanted to show that. a little fun. i can understand that.

Whatever, post kittens ban per, etc.
(updated image)
yeah, didn't really want to start a war, just nice for people to be aware of what is good and bad. To be fair I should have been a bit more explicit on what i thought was wrong with the piece in question, not just its a bit poor!
I do however feel that people should crit a bit more honestly, even just quickly write whats good and bad about a piece.
Any way i shut up now and do some more work:)

DarthRevanII - I have had people tell me my work sucks in the past and it made me all the more determined to improve.
If you look at the majority of my posts then you will realise that I am a pretty helpful guy.
All I am saying is that before posting look at the obvious faults and try some self critique, ie is that nose a nose? , does it vaguely resemble a nose etc.
Makes it easier to crit and more likely to get a response.
sama.van - thats not as bad start, nice colours in the texture, but perhaps the darkness under the eyes is slightly overdone IMHO
Seems the bridge of the nose is too low down on the head also.
Neo_God - quite a nice stylistic head so far

Slaught: It might just be that 1º of an angle that would make your arm look funny, but his left arm, from that render, almost looks as if it's kind of curvy. Can't really tell too much, but I think you may have that modeling arm problem I had a while ago. It looks like you have made the width of the forearm (meaning from pinky to thumb) much wider than the thickness of the forearm (meaning from top of the hand to the palm). Might want to try evening that up in both directions? Could be wrong, might just be the angle
Other than that, looks great, what is he?

what do you mean "dont worry" ?? /images/graemlins/blush.gif
the colors really are nice, and the design too. i dont think the outer walls are boring but i think some areas have dark blacks that seem out of sync, like why dont the walls' plates have darker crack between them, while other cracks are?
one option (which im not sure goes with ur design) is have some rust dripping from some of the nails (on the outer walls..), from the windows' grates, etc

I want to make myself post as many of the heads I'll be doing so that I'm in the habit of putting my work up here. Yep quite manly, good rule of thumb is to make sure the hips are as wide as the shoulders. Also the arms look a bit long, or just too large in general, esp if you consider how skiny the thighs are. Ears are probably too large, and the neck is too wide.

A beginning of a new Shotgun model (again not optimised for real time rendering yet... base for normalmap) since I was told that would be needed more urgently in Sauerbraten.
Suggestions on the design are welcome /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Who doesn't like triple barreled shotguns?
Well... I'd be worried if my upper barrel was going to destroy my other two barrels. : D
They should be an even length. The upper barrel is going to either warp the metal from making the lower two barrels so hot, or maybe even fuck it up with some buckshot.

I thought more about stylized insects while making it, must be the simple Zspheres base that make it look like that. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
@ commander_keen
Are you using green yellowish lights or is the texture that green? It looks really good but that green makes it look like it belongs underwater and that there is algae on it.

The model and normals are pretty sweet, Ruz, but I don't like the diffuse or spec (do you even have one?) at all. They hardly seem to be doing anything, and he's got an almost cartoonish flat color look everywhere.

keen care to post your maps and maybe a more neutral lighting setup??
yeah he hasn't got a spec map yet SupRore. I try and do that last.
I have just started working in to the diffuse.
There again i quite like the cartoony look myself:)

you guys really think its too green? when tweaking the lighting this was the most visually appealing. anyway heres the diffuse, the spec does have a really greenish tint on the concrete so maybe thats causing it, though the spec level in that area is very low.

Yeah it looks too green, you should at least have some variation in there, maybe make your base concrete a more paleish color and work some of the green you have only in the stains. The metal you have is also the same hue as your concrete so you're losing any pop you would get by having it be a different color, i would desaturate the metal and maybe even shift it very slightly towards red.
Also do some edgework on the concrete as well. Use the normal map as a guide to paint in some slightly lighter edge work along your concrete edges.
Also if you're not already really push your spec on the edgework of the metals and keep it really low on the concrete.
actually I didn't mind the green too much. looked cool overall

Tinman, thanks, I didnt notice that the hue's were so close. Also I do have edge work though it got a bit lost when I scaled the image down. After tweaking the maps and using a bit of a more orange light this is what I got(no its not the same image :P).

I just cant seem to go really desaturated on the concrete, this just looks much better to me /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I don't think saturation is the problem, just go -15 or so on the hue to make it look less like it's been sitting in a swamp.

@Vitor: What is this supposed to become? A realisic anatomy study or some sort of monster minicing the human form? 'cause that's what it looks like right now.
The head, arms and legs looks ok, but the joints connecting them to the torso and the torso in general needs a loot of work. It doesn't look like you used any reference at all to be honest, otherwise you wouldn't have a ribcage that exents all the way down to the hip, and fronal hip-bones that are about 10 inches too low. The lower belly in general is also way out of scale (to big) and her breast don't really look like small breast do (I guess that is your intention) but like undetailed large breasts scaled uniformly down. Last but not least, what are those harsh indents at the shoulders supposed to be?
Sorry if this sounded a bit harsh, but IMHO its/her look right now scares the crap out of me /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Edit: Oh and her neck is way to long also... and the head, arms and legs could be a bit out of scale, but there is so much wrong about it right now that I am unsure about it.

Better to actually use green lighting in this situation to add color, instead of coloring your actual diffuse. That way if wanted a blueish, or purplish lighting you just change your lights, not use a different diffuse.

Most of the color is coming from the light. The green on the diffuse is to make it look like its weathered. The fill lights in the render are slightly blue and seem to work ok on the diffuse.

It just comes off as tinted green, not any sort of weathering. And you can tell by the render and the flat texture shown, most of the color is in the diffuse. Maybe your monitor's color is off. If you want that sort of green color, its WAY WAY too uniform, maybe small amounts of htat in certain places for color varaition, but right now it is tinted *very* green.
I would desaturate it a bit, and shift the hue so its more like this:
