The pegboard cost $10 for 4 six inch squares that can snap together. Each board is 29x29 in terms of how many beads it'll fit.

The final 'thing' is gonna be 256x176, so that's about 45,000 pieces. Bags of 1000 are under $3, and some colors have bags of 6000 for $7.

They either go by the name of Hama Beads or Perler Beads, depending on where you are. You'll probably be able to find places to by them from googling, or even on Amazon.

I'll put up a newer picture later today. Finished with a section 50x50, but didn't iron it long enough, so when I turned it over to fuse the other side the center parts mostly just flew apart.

BTW- dithering sucks.

Having done some very similar stuff a couple of years ago I can't wait to see how this all turns out.

You might want to sharpen things up a bit though and not use the layer styles as much, or at least with the blending modes you're using currently - the black and white shadows/highlights don't look natural.

That turned out awesome Ruz! You completely nailed the consistency between the eyes and the rest of the face, which is one of the most distracting aspects I see in higher poly works. The skin tone looks like it could be played with just a tad more along the lines of getting a slightly more red/dark hue as the yellows seem overpowering. Wonder if monitors will even pick up this subtle of a tweak (or if my monitor has even been calibrated in the past few months). I guess even without the image you get the gist.

the insets on the side have more of a smooth rounded bevel to them on the c96, not such a harsh edge like that. Also is this diffuse only? If so you really need some good specular highlights painted in. Your metal is looking a little "cloudy" as well.

sweet model warby, but I agree the feet feel weak. Also, the texture looks like a good base, but needs that top couple layers of detail still, some area seem too smooth/clean. You get golf claps for now, but that could become a roaring applause if you play your cards right.

Got to playing around with lights last night as they appy to shapes (ie ; lightsabre or neon tubes) I want to come up with a standard solution and keep it as a file that way I don't have to recreate anything else except the shapes...still W.I.P.

Interestingly, I've heard that even ILM does their lightsabers as a 2D effect in their compositing package, tracked onto the sticks the actors are fighting with, rather than doing it in 3D.

Yep. In the early days of course they didn't have 3d programs. They showed how the actors worked with lights inside sloted tubes, filmed and then essentially painted over on film. We also have Star Wars to thank for Blue Screen photography which many years later became green screen and ultimately...bullet time. Now of course, bullet time is cliche, but the rest of the technology is expected in film.

Johny, the face likeness is (still) awesome, but he looks really short and wide to me - I know Keifer Sutherland isn't the tallest guy in the world, but I'm pretty sure he has a longer torso and legs than you've given him there. I was just kidding dizZy Walnut, I recognised Bruce Willis straight away. Yeah I have tried his likness before, quite tough to get right.
My skin shader is a realtime shader. just used the oren nayar blinn material in max.
Turn on direct x , then have a single spotlight, a bit overbright.
its quite nice to fiddle around with, the roughness value in particular.
For my skinning I hand paint the base tones then overlay a few photo textures, but I used them sparingly.
All the major details for my diffuse are taken from my high res head in zbrush in the form of a cavity map or overlaying the blue channel from an object space map

Japhir
06-06-2007, 01:55 PM
Hey guys, for school i had to draw a cylindrical projection of the eart (a map). I really enjoyed it and found that it is really a lot like uv mapping, so i figured that if i'd align the uv's of a sphere with the lines on my map, i'd get a perfect globe :P
so i did so really quickly and this is how it turned out:
the way we did the (very simple) projection:
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/9647/aardecilindrischeprojecez3.jpg
and this is how it turned out:
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/2631/aardeprojectie01zp1.th.jpg (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aardeprojectie01zp1.jpg)http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/6813/aardeprojectie02wu9.th.jpg (http://img524.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aardeprojectie02wu9.jpg)http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/8680/aardeprojectie03nx7.th.jpg (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aardeprojectie03nx7.jpg)
obviously it isn't a very good way of uv mapping a sphere, there is a lot of stretching going on, and the tops can't even be projected.

Just thought i'd share /images/graemlins/grin.gif

RUZ & SLAUGHT -

thanks , that encourage me to go on.
I work mainly under CINEMA 4 & BODY PAINT , as I know there no "smooth groups" like under 3DS MAX.
When I work "boxmodeling", I switch off completly the smooth to see the shapes better way. On the snap of Mr.B.W. the smooth is about 30° for whole mesh.
Anyway - when he will be done - I will export him into 3DS MAX to add. the smooth groups better way for low poly version ;... the riging is expected too.
I keep the head in quads for ZBRUSHING later on.

I am working on some concept art for the game project I'm working on, just detailing away a bit, but not in any way finished yet. Click it for full size.
It's a steampunkish/industrial FireHydrant design.

I like it, but I'm having some trouble seeing a fire hydrant, or rather I'm having trouble seeing what use certain mechanics of it actually come into play with it being a fire hydrant.

Don't think I'll be posting to much on this before the finish. Just wanted to show this stage. The shoulder armor is as fantasy as it gets, but I like it, even if it is a bit impractical...and my colors are not final, just there to help separate the shapes...

Texture wip. Toying with the diffuse and spec right now. Still going to add some wear and tear.

Lantern Bot for Darkmod
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4340/botan5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

about 220 polys, in game shot.

WIP, need to retweak the smooth groups, this pic is diffuse only, specular and bump are about 50% done.

Most anims done, steam and light attached.

I really like her face and the piercings, but something about the zipper on her neck/collar seems wrong; like it has 2 zipper pulls side-by-side. Her face and eyes are awesome!

Eh, 2x128, psp style. Ready to fight ZOMBIES, or something. Also 1281 tris, which I'm sure is way too much. But the helmet comes off and the gun's included in the texture/tri count, so...

Sure. Needs some refinement (especially in a couple of areas) but I'm gonna let it rest for a couple of days. No rush, at the moment. :
