katzeimsack it's a nice piece overall, but in addition to almighty_gir's suggestions I'd say that the gold double-curly on his armguard feels a lot like a decorative cop-out. why not put some really REALLY ornate gold filigree there? something more interesting to see, as long as you're going to the trouble to bring it out in the normal map as well.

That sounds like detail for the sake of detail to me. The smoothness and simplicity meshes well with the rest of the character. It would be jarring to see some intricate ornate design in that spot.

Oh No! Johny!! when everyone thought the stupid glasses models were already out of date, you did it another time !
Now seriously, looks great. Ugly and gay, but i guess that was somehow your intention with it. I'd give him a few more polygons on the top of head/hair, as it makes him look too lowpoly. Loose a few polys on the neck as most of them don't give nothing to the silhueta (nao me saia a palavra em britanico /images/graemlins/wink.gif )
And thx people for the comments and critics on my model. I'm starting a new attemp at it now. Hope it gets better and more highpoly this time.

Welp, I just bought Silo because its damn cheap. I have access to the Silo 2 beta and it's everything I need in a modeler... I love it so far. The customization of this program is sweeeeet. Anyway, here's a quick 3d doodle I did the other day. Just wanted to play around with the displacement painting and the topology brush.
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/7828/silo2sketch01zr4.jpg
I also got around to revamping my site, and setting up wordpress so I can have a sketchblog. Hopefully making it super easy to update will encourage me to actually update it more often.

The walls are just a test bed for seeing models lit and in game, ignore those. I think my main problem with it is that the model simply doesn't look like what I intended. I wanted a gothic stone support, and ended up with something that looked more like concrete with wierd painted trim. Secondly, the texture didn't work well with existing assets or at a distance as I'd focused more on detail than on large forms.
I've done some work on it since, and it now matches what I'm going for more closely. The fancy trim had to go though. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

So I came across this comic Red Son:Superman. In it they have this bitchin revolutionary version of Batman. So reading it inspired me to model him. So here it is. Im pretty much finished up blocking in. Everything is very low detail at this point. What I would like to do is take it into ZBrush now. Ive said this before on here, Im have a very basic knowledge of Zbrush, If any of you guys that come on here from Los Angeles and surrounding areas, would ever like to meet up sometime and rap 3d that would be sweet. Also I am going to the ZBrush user group meeting at gnomon coming up this month, so hopefully some of you peeps will be there and I can meet some of you in the 3d community. So enough rambling from me, let me know what you all think. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the inspirational words, Ferg/Hawken. Amazing how much progress you two have made in a few short years.
Hawken - Yeah, I see what you mean. I think it might just be the shading, but I'll take another look at the area.
Ironbear - Thanks a lot, though I'm quite sure it's not perfect /images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I've tried playing around with the size of the head and it skews the proportional look that I'm going for. Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with proportions to accurately assess that sort of thing. I'm not smart enough to work from reference, so it's very likely that you're on to something.

Gir, That's a massive improvment from sinse your last update. My only crit would be that muscles woudn't show through a bullet proof vest.
[/ QUOTE ]
snake doesnt wear a bullet proof vest. its actually a thermal feedback outfit, designed to provide muscular, cardiovascular, and thermal support in the freezing cold temperatures he had to endure.
to all intent and purposes, snake starts his missions "naked", and has to acquire all weapons/armour on-site.
later in the game, you can find some body armour, and it looks much more like a kevlar vest, than what he wears to begin with.

Great work everyone. Lots of inspiration. I was playing with Mudbox for a few hours and this is what I came up with. It is ahead for a model mr. Freeze that I am working on. It will be low poly normal maped. Right now just base mesh from Mudbox.

Did this to show a co-worker the level of grunge I'm going with the scene. Figured I could show it here as well.

Rota: Love your style man, looks awesome.
Warhawk: Face looks really accurate man, nice stuff.
Fuse: The textures are looking really nice, but go in and get rid of some of the blackness everything has to it, and add more color, even to you darks.
Shep: I already posted on this at CGchat lol....awesome work though....oh and, Does the quality of your video card have any part in speeding up max?

it wont in the final rendering process, but i imagine it would help you out in the actual manipulation stages, since those are rendered in realtime.

Couldn't get xnormal to work well so had to cut in the sourcemesh subdivions to get it into Max /images/graemlins/frown.gif 1607 tris so far, left both high and low versions of the acessories. Hope i can find some inspiration to keep at it, otherwise it will go righ now to the never ending works folder; i was already forced to continue it to this point by that crazy portuguese Johny /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I swear half of you guys on here put your normal maps in the bump map slot before rendering. Vitor, the hipoly rocks, give it the normal map it deserves. Low and hi should look approximately the same, which isn't the case with your spawn

"Couldn't get xnormal to work well so had to cut in the sourcemesh subdivions to get it into Max"
use poly crunch and then import with the hidden layer trick to get it in max - if that fails, cut it into chunks. It's an absolutely awesome piece, we're all dying to see this guy get the love it deserves /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Some 'for fun' stuff with Adam deGrandis, a good friend of mine from GG. He laid the basework, I wanted to play with it alittle bit, so I did..
http://www.thetextureguy.com/screenies/zombiedrawin1c.jpg
EricElwell: Your stuff is getting a lot better. I love the colors and some of the details. But you should really try backing off of the dodge and burn tools. They seem to be a bit counter productive. Try painting all your shadows and hilights with straight color.
