Androgeny is one of the key features of "beauty". Do a lot of facial drawing studies and you start to notice this. Thats why runway model girls look like guys and model guys look like girls 1/2 the time /images/graemlins/confused.gif

nice! The hoops need something to show how it's all held together (gotta love rivets). There's quite a few good sites on barrel making which might help: http://www.rootsweb.com/~flbbm/heritage/cooper/barrelmaking.htm. Keep working on the pewter, the lions head looks like a different material at the moment. I do like the cloth wrapped handle tho.

Shephiro, youve got the bayonet fitting all wrong mate =[

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b8/SMLE_No4_Mk1.jpg

i realise thats not the best picture, but ill describe how they fit (i used to fire those rifles, and perform bayonet practice). basically, there were two types of bayonet for that rifle, a "pigsticker", which is like a spike. and a knife. both fit onto the rifle the same way, they are mounted onto the muzzle at 45degree's then twisted into place, where they are locked until you wish to release them. the holding block actually covers the entire muzzle.

SHEPEIRO - nice, but reckon thats a bit clean looking, few dirt overlays maybe
psyko - where the bottom of the ears meet the head seems too smooth. They should curve back under a little

frotymoose - reckon I have a ways to go in this yet. mesh flow is a bit borked really
neogod - I will try get a bit more variation in when I am totally happy with the basic shape/look of the mesh

after adding .obj and .3ds conversion tools for "luxinia", I started on quake3 .bsp. Although they are converted to big meshes and loose their "portal" informations (only become volume nodes), But I might be doing the portal visibility precomputation for optimized rendering some day, too.

http://luxinia.de/uploads/Main/quake3_levelmodel_multi_t.jpg (http://luxinia.de/uploads/Main/quake3_levelmodel_multi.jpg)

the aim is to provide more "content" generating tools. So far we only had .md3 conversion and 3dsmax/c4d exporters.
Although I want to furhter improve the 3dsmax exporting as well, currently mesh/collision data export is doable. But a maxscript for more "scene" informations such as lights/projectors... would be cool

Upper eyelids? I think the lack of those might be giving your models the crazied look.

Fuse
07-31-2006, 01:46 PM
the way to top rim of the eye socket flowins into the nose is a littke akward to me .. giving it that dopey, cross-eye look .. perhaps smoothing it out and raising the length of the nose higher ..

i also think the proportions of the eyes to the edges of the mouth could use a little work .. right now the mouth is significantly wider relative to the placement of hte eyes

ChaosEidolon
07-31-2006, 04:09 PM
Shapeiro man, those look freeking awesome =)

Seeing them together starts giving you a feel for the style and im digging it.

EQ: From the perspective, id say the eye sockets are slightly too close together, and bridge of the nose right between the eyes is too broad and there needs to be a cavity going straight back to the cuticle and transitioning outward into the eyebrow in a smooth curve. right now that part comes straight forward. Hope that makes sense.
And of course the missing eyelid =X

Otherwise its looking good. The nose and ears look great.

Had a holiday around parts of asia, been trying to catch up with people and on work... in between, had a tinker with this:
http://server2.uploadit.org/files/jistyles-sl_r3.jpg

a fair few tweaks of my soft light skin shader -- shadow hack works well too /images/graemlins/smile.gif (the old one isn't a perfect direct comparison since it's just the same settings, so it wouldn't look quite that bad since the numbers would be further refined for the older one)

I don't consider this to be any good, just fooling around trying to get over my problems modeling human heads (and highpoly) in Max, but I haven't posted anything here for a while.

Started with a quadified version of the model on the right last night, got it to around http://i1.tinypic.com/24bjn0i.jpg, and then tweaked it off and on today to be a little bit more presentable.

I'd like to excuse a few of it's failings on style, but it's really just bad all around.

I think I'm going to stop reading your posts, Suprore, they're really far too depressing. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Modeling an accurately proportioned human head is hard (I certainly can't do it!). Cheer up and give yourself some credit. What you've got now is pretty good; why not channel some of that self loathing into productive tweaking?

Already did. Just imagine how emo my post would have been if I was showing this (http://i1.tinypic.com/24bjn0i.jpg). /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Anyway, thanks. And sorry, I'll try to be less annoyingly negative in the future.

nice work pior, cool character

been working on a sky rendering system. The clue is to make it work on "crap hardware"(tm). So no pixel shaders are used, and it runs in a single pass on Geforce3

It allows lots of runtime tweakables (cloud brightness, sunsize, suncolor, cloud color). The day/night cycle is done with a 2d texture, as well as the clouds and sun shapes, so a lot can be modified.

Once proper day/night system is setup and a small demo scene, it will be part of the next luxinia release.

Photos for the hair base, and shells with alpha for the moustache. For some reason I messed with the eye shader badly, still need to adjust that. Also... he looks a bit like Johny Haliday, an ultra famous french singer. And I don't really want that!!

odium that looks too much like its only the color component of a color/normal/spec shader. If it's the only map you're going to use, I'd add way more lighting and surface definition.

CulBoji, fun look but those ID numbers are wayyyy too bright and saturated right now. Bring them down so they are a lot more subtle. Also consider interrupting them (like scratches over the decal or paint).

Are you going to have a full fleet?

A cube of sorts, subdivided and in the basic shape of a skull.

IBXL: This head seems to have some of the same problems as the last, i think its a bit too long, and similar problem with lips, need to rework the way they blend into the face i think. The top lip also looks larger than the bottom. I think the cheekbone is a bit too low. Do you have concepts/references for this girl?
