Johnny those (i think) are rolled edges on the armor. They are probably there to give a sense of realism (plate armor with rolled edges was/is much safer) not so much as a decorative detail. they aren't supposed to be big.

Yeah, the concept for that big demon was by Mr. Chris Anderson. Joshuathejamesomgshaw did the concept for this big nugget man.

Both of these bosses run in at about 3k tris, and 3-4 512x512's. They are WAAY too big in game though, but there is nothing I can do about that. I painted them at double res, so there is room for an upgrade later on if they choose to.

I've been wrapping up the latest expansion to SWG. I helped to build Mustafar, the lava planet from Ep3. I did all the special fx on the planet as well as the lava, and environment fx. Built a bunch of the dungeons as well as their fx and world built most of the interiors too.

the trailer and most of the shots dont show the final lava that is in the game now. it's a few steps beyond what you do see there, but you get a good idea of what's going on.

Cool beans Mop I love it, that goes in my steal um, inspiration folder. Why are all your meshes triangled?

Noel Cower
10-14-2005, 07:05 PM
I'm pretty sure that's because the majority of engines use triangle strips for rendering. Plus, engines don't typically store anything other than triangle indices.

Weiser_Cain, I always triangulate my meshes if they're not for sub-division or highpoly stuff. I tend to leave them in quads when "roughly" working an area, so that i can select loops and rings and stuff, then when i think the geometry is getting close to final, i flip edges and triangulate it all so I can see all the edges and keep the flow neat and ordered. It also helps for defining the gouraud shading in the best way possible. I dunno, I guess I could leave it all in quads and edit the triangulation manually... I just like seeing them all as solid edges :P

This is also nice when you start rigging and animating. Edit Poly's shading smooths out the middle edges on the polygons and thus hides the collapsing of the geometry sometimes. Triangulating the mesh makes these areas much easier to see and fix.

Hey Vitor, I really like your model, but the texture has some problems. The main thing is the wrinkle lines don't seem to follow the face contours correctly. Just google up some old guy's faces to fix that. Also, consider adding some more age splotches and whatnot to his face. I think those things and a little more contrast in the texture would really make it look good.

EQ: That's pretty cool, the topology is pretty good but won't allow for smile lines when animated. I think you'll also run into a similar problem with the eyebrows.

It looks like you based the topology only on the muscles and didn't account for fat and skin folds.

You may not intend for this to be animated, but I find that you'll represent the forms more easily/efficiently/accurately when you follow "animatable" topology.

Maybe I'll do a paintover of what I mean later.

Per and JKMakowka are right on the money... the head model is nice, and the torso model is nice... but they don't fit together at all. The head is young-looking and not slim, the body seems at least a good 5-10 years older (in terms of development) than the face, and that stomach/ribcage area... well, that just doesn't happen on women who aren't fairly unhealthy.

Hey EQ, looking cool, clean mesh as we are used to /images/graemlins/smile.gif, but I think the mouth needs to come out a bit more (lips also look flat) and the cheekbones are a tad bit to small.

The part from the ear to the "jaw-edge-thingamagiga" (got to get my terminology freshed up /images/graemlins/wink.gif ) also seems a bit off (long ?!), even for that style.

Maybe you can also change the proportion of the face a bit, all parts are nearly exactly the same length.

I like his sleepy look /images/graemlins/smile.gif, keep up the good work.

Ramucho is right, its a walken caricature. based off this painting here, if someone remembers the guys name who did this or has a higher res version this let me know, i know one was posted on 4chan but i forgot to save it =(

Isn't that paintin by aq guy called kruger or something?
I really hate myself for not remembering his name, but it looks a lot like his style...

10-28-2005, 07:58 PM
And i was right, as well:
http://www.krugerstars.com/extract/Images/506604FC4AADED6D85256E9D00188A91_$FILE.gif
Sebastian kruger.
I think that, for you to make your model look more like the picture, you'd have to deform his head a lot more. Or just dump the reference, because i really like what you've got now. Very characteristic, but that's what you get when you reference a charicature /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Something about the way his wang connects to his groin bothers me, I always seem to comment on your model's wangs... Anyway yeah, looking really improved man, nice work. Maybe soften up the transition halfway down the forearm, I like the legs. What's with them floating blobs?

Cheers.

those blobs are his bracers

i've revised the wang since the render, its alot better now. I also have corrected more porportions. pics later heh

The feet need a lot of work. But to be honest: I think the problem is in the design.
There are no real existing living beeings, that have human style legs and the same time claw like feet. And evolution 'knew' what it was doing, because it doesn't make sense /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I know that this particular (2D) gargoyle design has these strange feet, but I would definitly change the design to either more human feet, or a 'backwards' animal like leg-design.

CheapAlert
11-01-2005, 05:34 AM
the feet are next. hopefully i'll wrap this up by the middle of the week. please note that i haven't touched the feet at ALL in the high poly mesh

http://www.planetgargoyle.com/models/fb40.jpg
http://www.planetgargoyle.com/models/fb38.jpg

And no, i'm not changing the design. Firebrand always had these feet, actually they're rather clawed humanish feet, with less toes. oh and also he usually wears bracers around there so that should help "interpolate" it /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
